9 Reasons Why Liz Lemon Should Be Your Idol
If you haven’t yet experienced the amazingness of 30 Rock, you need to find a way to get it in front of your eyes ASAP. My favorite character on the show is Liz Lemon, although all of the characters on the show are phenomenal and prove that Tina Fey is a top notch comedy writer. Even if you haven’t seen much of the show, you’ve inevitably encountered memes or quotes from this inspiring wonder woman of a character. From her undying love for cheese sticks to the patience that she exudes every day, Liz Lemon is someone who we can all aspire to be like. Not sold yet? Check out some examples of Liz Lemon’s greatness below, and I feel confident that you’ll change your mind.
1. She’s honest.
Liz Lemon doesn’t sugarcoat anything. When people need to know the truth, she’s going to give it to them. Here, we see that her desire to always be honest is so intense that it causes her to do a spit take when she hasn’t even been drinking any water. If that’s not a testament to her honest tendencies, then I don’t know what is.
2. She tries to comfort people who are feeling down, no matter how bad she is at it.
Many of us struggle to take care of a person who is crying, and sometimes it can feel easier to simply walk away and ignore the situation. However, that’s not who Liz Lemon is. Even though she may not know exactly what to say or do, she longs to help people feel happier.
3. She speaks to everyone’s inner introvert.
Whether your introvert side is all you know or it’s overpowered by your outgoing personality, we can all appreciate the simple pleasure of staying in everyone once in a while, at the very least. Liz Lemon gets this. She can be a modern day Yes Woman who loves life and wants love while still appreciating the satisfaction that comes from staying to her heart’s desire.
4. She gets real about relationships.
All of that relationship mumbo-jumbo can be stressful. Liz Lemon, perhaps more than anyone else, knows how much easier it would be to just start a relationship in the middle, where you and your partner are already comfortable with one another and there’s zero awkwardness and not an ounce of “funny business.” One can dream, right?
5. She knows that pizza > parties.
Why shotgun some nasty cheap bear when you can shotgun a delicious cheesy pizza? While this decision may seem strange at times, we all know what the better choice is. Liz Lemon is so in touch with herself that she always chooses the pizza without any hesitation. She is someone who we should all look up to.
6. She asks life’s most important questions.
Liz Lemon needs to know certain things, and she’s not going to chicken out about asking them just because they might be embarrassing. You can’t live life without getting answers, and you can’t get answers without asking questions. Liz Lemon has got this all figured out, and all we have to do is learn from her expertise.
7. She understands how much you love food.
Liz Lemon is an unapologetic food aficionado, and she’s not afraid to let the world know it (and she shouldn’t be!). She takes her relationship with food from one of merely an unreciprocated method of survival to a close, personal, and loving relationship that we should all aspire to have.
8. She’s a feminist.
Liz Lemon advocates women’s rights and addresses gender inequality. Simply the fact that she is a female creator and writer of a television show is a huge testament to her ambition and drive. Of 30 Rock and Tina Fey (who plays Liz Lemon on the show), Linda Holmes of NPR says, “What makes it important for women is not its storylines about work-life balance or adoption or body image; what makes it important for women is its indelibility and its specificity. It could be and could have been no one else’s.” This could not have been done without the lovely Liz Lemon.
9. She enjoys the simple things.
If you truly think about it, isn’t this one of life’s most simple yet enjoyable pleasures? It’s so rare that we’re idle enough to sit down and eat a sandwich without having to worry about other things. In that moment, when you’re sitting in peace and eating a sandwich, everything is right in the world. We should all take in these simple pleasures like Liz Lemon does.
